Trevor Twist
Located in Oakland, CA, I am a goldsmith, bench jeweler and designer specializing in contemporary body jewelry. My work explores adornment, ritual, rites of passage, rebellion and cultural connection.
I work predominantly in 14k and 18k gold of all colors, as well as brass, steel, silver and other metals for particular projects. I seek out ethical gemstones, preferring traceable mines and re-using antique stones whenever possible. My work is all handmade, using a mixture of tradtional metalsmithing techniques, and more modern tools adapted for use in Traditional and Body Jewelry. I prioritize ethical practices, durability, comfort of wear, healing factors and a sentimental connection in every piece I create.
I apprenticed to learn the basics of fabrication and casting in 2013 and have since been trained at Academy of Art and GRS, and worked for a number of fine jewelry and piercing jewelry companies.
I see jewelry as a form of self expression, and body piercing as a form of radical self expression. It invites the wearer to claim ownership of their body, and reclaim it when so often we do not feel in control of our circumstances. It allows the wearer to craft a narrative of their own existence and share that with the world.
